If you look hard, both pipes appear to have dual mounting bolts.
STD heads had triple mounting bolts, Yes?
Custom for sure, maybe cut the flanges from first set of pipes and re-weld to preferred set.

V-Twin has a set of True Duals for a '52 PanHead.... so that will take care of the fit to the frame.... and after talking to my OldIronGuru in town, I am pretty sure that the fix is as you suggest.
Cut the Flanges, bolt in the exhaust, check the fit....then cut the Panhead ends off, and weld up the pieces to fit. I want to put on a set of flex covers, so if it is done right, I might not need to recrome the pipes right away.
I have a good buddy who is a fitter so it should go ok.
I will order up the parts and then probably do the job in early April. I will take picts all the way through the process. Also the other changes I will be making.
Before you buy drop one of the pipes and see what the end looks like, see if they left a lip or is it flushed off. May make a difference in what set you buy shovel or pan.

The parts take about a week to get here (across the border and have to clear customs) so I will get the bike to my buddies and take all the bits off I want to replace and make sure I order the right stuff. I will repost pictures before I order.
It will be a fun project. I am selling my 017 Glide and riding the Pan to Sturgis from home. About 800 miles. Next winter I will take the frame back to stock.
Been a while since I sold my 48. You guys are on point about the exhaust. My question is the intake. If I recall the manifold where it meets the head is the same size as the port on the head and has a rubber seal under the clamp. Those heads have been molested pretty good. I'm curious as to what that looks like under there.

We also noticed it was odd and will have a look when we start working on the Pan.
