Palmers may not have all the answers but the 2-volume set really helped me out with the details on my 49 EL and his 3rd ed. has been a huge help on reassembly of my 65 FLH.
My 49 EL cylinders have no date code on them; my 49 FL cylinder have no date code either but the front cylinder has a pressed in casting number "120-48" on it.
Thanks Dave. You may remember a certain thread on the P and F forum in 2010-11 where some good info was posted about Pan cylinders. Since then a few more questions have been answered but a couple of things still remain unresolved so the search continues.

I guess I was in error when I thought buying the book would give me ALL the answers.
First Palmer book I bought was the third version of the 3764 FE. I didnt expect it to be mistake-free but neither did I imagine it would contain so many problems. In 2008 on another forum a certain contributor to the book said that after the first version of the FE was published (1994) Palmer submitted 600 pages for correcting. He also said the publisher only fixed 200. I was left wondering why Id had to pay full price for a brand new book containing at least 400 errors. I say at least because later on I began thinking the amount of mistakes would run way higher than the total(s) which had originally been alleged.
The 3764 SE was published in 2014 but many things had not been corrected even though Palmer was aware of some of them prior to the book being printed. The SE was revised in January 2015 but some mistakes had not been fixed. And some had still not been addressed before the launch of the TE (3665).
