Default '49 FL Project

So...no update on the paint for the niece's chopped '50. In the meantime I've gone into the tranny on the '49 to fix it so I can grab all gears, and just got back the last parts on the '65 from the chrome shop.

In between I picked up a really decent 52 frame for my 49 FL Chop/Bobber project. Price was right ($2300) and only a missing the footboard tabs, toolbox mount and horn mount. Only thing I am putting back on tho are the footboard tabs (ordered them from Wasco Frame Service out of Washington).

From the parts stash I am using a set of mismatched FL cases, '49 left case with good numbers (just need title), & a '51 FL right case. Left case is being repaired. Gonna use K 7 heads (both) with no broken fins. Also have some never-used Black Diamond valves that should work nicely with the heads along with OEM rocker arms. Have FL 49-49 cylinders with no broken fins that I will take to L.A. Sleeve for stock size and rebore. Figuring on ordering a set of stock 74 FL flywheels from T&O.

Transmission case is 50, lid is 49. Will pack it with Andrews gear set.

Front end is '49. Had the fork tube bushings redone by Bills (PA). Gonna use steel tins and headlight (painted black). Forgot the date code on the rims but they'll be done with Buchanan stainless spoke with OEM hubs.

Using '51-'53 hand shift tanks along with a Linkert M-61 carb that needs to be built out.

Exhaust is Superior.

Bike is gonna be painted black so I am thinking of using Parkerized bolts and such to keep it all together.

QUESTION FOR THE DAY PLEASE: I was going thru my stuff and came across these pistons. Are these for EL or FL models? Have a pair. Includes pins, keeperss and rings (Sorry for the supersize).

Lastly, a pic of the frame

Lifter blocks are OEM aluminum. Tappet assemblies are Eastern (they use rollers from Japan, unlike the other named brand)

Pushrods are steel from S&S

Motor is now completely assembled. Transmission is as well sans kicker sidestep up for e-start (goes in once transmission is in the frame along with the e-start).

Now if I could just get the frame back from Wasco (been a couple days shy of 6 months), I could get the frame and rear fender painted and move to the next phase.

And a special thanks to Twizted for the cork pushrod seals (saved me from ordering them because I had somehow forgot about them).

Great deal on the frame! Measure the piston, even just with a tape measure, that'll tell you.

Thanks Paul. Did just that as well as try to fit them in EL cylinders. Not even close. They are definitely FL.

You get in a pinch as your assembling and need a nut in park color and dont have - super heat it red and spray it with WD40 it also works on bolts you belt sanded the top stuff off super heat the head red and spray with wd 40

yea it flares up we buy gallon can and spray botitles back off quick — it turns black once cooled and does not come off

Unfortunately by super heating a fastener red hot and quenching it, you now have no idea what grade that fastener is and it could fail if the structure is crystallized.

novis idea - the nut and bolt more then once that holds the chain guard to the front of the primary with the spring - yea that needs to be grade 8 at least

license plate stuff every one forgets to buy the park for that - the tail light screws for the knuckles sure another grade 8 have to have

i am done you get it - in a pinch stuff thats not like head bolts
