Oh great — the derelicts from the ghetto that fish in the NYC ferry slots need it to hold the body’s they catch down deeper it will come in handy — thanks
New wheel arrived last night, from the Butcher of eBay. Actually got a good deal, so I am happy. Not sure yet if she is a real MoCo wheel, but the paint on the rim looks factory to me. Rusty spokes, but one cleaned up pretty easy so that should just be some time to make it look good enough. I have a spare race wheel from the Flathead so if I had the rest of the suspension components I could turn it into a roller.
Today hopefully will have me finding time to do the swing arm races and bearings and mounted to the frame. Anybody got a picture of the "fish scale" doing the preload adjustment?
Apparently all transmission base plates are not the same even though the later parts books say they are. Per Palmer they added a hole in 1958 due to a change in the mount at the seat post. Luckily the 1959 plate just has one additional hole, drill press allowed me to make my pre 1958 plate into a 1959 plate. Also installed motor skid plate.
Swing arm races, bearings and new seals installed, preload set with my new luggage scale. Try and find a "fish" scale these days. I know I have one somewhere, easier to buy one for $11 then spend half of the day looking for mine. Which is likely older than me and who knows if it is even accurate. Proper hardware for shifter and gate installed.
I also cleaned up the spokes on the wheel from the Butcher of eBay. Spokes were rusty, but steel wool and wire wheel cleaned them up fast. And of course my wife loves the white wall!?!?!?!? Staying for now, but that will not make the final rider. Front wheel is my racing knobbie from Flathead, I kinda like the look of the aggressive tire.
If the hole in the rim is the size of the metal tube stem then its a re pop -
but i have drilled it to the rubber side tube hole in a pinch over the years only Jesus knows for sure
Metal stem tube in there right now, without the rubber spacer or nut and flopping around in the hole, so definitely sized for the rubber tube. When I take the tire off we will see if there are any hallmarks on the rim, only way to confirm if she is real.
