The 65 pan has been leaking in the generator area. Been pissing me off. I replaced the gasket once and it still leaked. It's been leaking enough that oil has dribbles down the engine cases to the point where the whole underside of the bike has a light coat of oil.. It don't drip any when sitting but seems to be keeping things so they won't rust..
I've pulled the top end to check for front piston and rattle and saw the leak so I pulled the generator again.. The gasket looked to be sealing well except that the lower through bolt countersink had oil in it due to clearance on the gasket hole. I went ahead and cut the outer cover flat.. It only took about 3-4 thou to clean up.
I got to cleaning while waiting for part and began to wonder if it had been leaking from some place else.. I found the screw hole for the idler gear screw and suspect it might be leaking from there..
I'd used ultrablack on the screw when I assembled the motor but maybe it's not enough..
This bike probably has had this leak chronically as whenI started the restore the bottom of the bike was caked with dirt..
I'm thinking to try and pressurize the cam case to see where oil might be leaking out..
Seeing how you have machining capabilities, why not make a cap out of a piece of aluminum the same diameter as the genny, bolt it in place of the genny with a new gasket, and fire the bike up. The battery would allow it to run long enough to watch for any leaks in the area.

I could do that but instead made a plug for the gen cap and tried pressurizing the cam case. It really didn't work.. Instead of trying to run the with a cover, I'll just get the generator back together with the leak cleaned and put maybe 20 miles on it, then pull the generator to see if there is still a leak.. I may make a gasket that fits snugger around the generator extension. One thing I noticed when pulling the thing apart was that gasket I used compressed to about 0.019" It's a foam over steel cometic.. In doing so the radius on the part that goes into the case might have limited the compression of the gasket.. I have thicker gaskets on order.
