I have finally ridden my bike today after a week fo kicking. The only thing I done different... I put gas in, I charged the batt, and put four new plugs in.
While it was running today I put a tester on the batt post and reved the eng and nothing changed on the readings. If the gen was good and the reg bad could such a thing happen.
I have to shamefully admit that I did not until after I put it on and rode the bike. As I was enjoying getting the bike going, that is when I read the instructions.
Put lead of voltmeter on gen terminal of voltage regulator and other on good ground. See if any voltage is being generated. Should be around 6.8v to 7.2 volt. Voltage regulators go much quicker than a generator and are much less costly. Get yourself a Clymer manual for your bike. Tells how and shows with diagrams correct way to check v. reg. and generator. If your regulator is shot you wont charge the battery. By not polarizing the generator, you may have burnt contacts in regulator. do it the smart way and work your way down the list. Dont replace unless you know for sure part is bad.
If it's a 12 volt conversion, like mine, you should see 13 - 14 volts when the bike is running. If you only see 11 - 12, the generator is not charging the battery. A new Cycle Electric gen costs around $300.
