When I ran Pans,I took of the old Linkert and went to a Bendix and what a improvment to have a carb with a accelorator pump as the linkerts did not !

Ran a Linkert on mine when I first bought it. Changed it out with an S&S B for the performance. Put a Bendix on about 15 years ago. Ran great for 15 years. Changed it out last year for a S&S E model. It started to dump all kinds of fuel in the bike and flood out the engine. I ran it with a adjustable main jet and from all the vibration it caused it to wear to an excessive size. Bendix are great carbs when they run right.

On my mostly stock '49 FL (but running 8.5 - 1 and an FLH cam and springs), I've gone from an S&S E to a CV to an M-36 fitted with a larger venturi (so it flows the same as an M-74). I don't miss the accelerator pumps at all and never felt a pan needs that much technology. Plus the S&S is really a performance carb and flows waaay more than a stockish pan will ever need. The secret to getting a Linkert to behave is just a matter of ensuring that it's all within spec (throttle shaft bushings, plates, jets, etc) AND the magic bullet: a PEEK float and metal float needle valve. The PEEK floats (Tom Cotton at Liberty Cycles sells 'em) are totally impervious to modern fuels and retain the same bouyancy as the stockers, so tuning is done to stock specs. Good stuff...

I have the stock Linkert on my '59. It works fine, but I am going to send it off to Tom for some TLC. I have been told when you get it back, it will be better than new.

Default Linkert

Thanks everyone for your input. I am leaning heavily toward the Linkert.

I have worked on all makes and models of carbs, bikes and cars.Once you understand what makes them tick and address their shortfalls, they are a great way to feed a hungry Twin.A little TLC goes a long way.
