Default Replacement Headlamp

Hey guys, my 65 FLH burnt out the low beam the other day. I was going to order the replacement standard sealed beam bulb, but thought about going with a halogen. Is there any special wiring I need to worry about? Is there a big difference between the halogen and the sealed beam? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Halogens are brighter. You have to buy a whole new lamp assembly though, the Halogen just twists in the back of the assembly then (don't touch with your bare fingers or it will cause it to burn out right away).

Suggestion before you think you have to go and pull a bunch of wires. J&P offers a halogen headlamp for 65-09 models. Their part number is 310-076. Call them and see if it is a direct replacement..meaning it has the 3-prong fitting at the back.

42 bucks and some change. Not cheap but not over the top either. Somehow I just cannot see them offering this with the caveat that...oh by the way your wiring is gonna have to get jerked around for this to work...

Thanks guys, I picked up an H4 that is a direct fit. I used your suggestion and was told there was a direct fit that did not require any change in wiring. Of course while it was in transit I discovered a loose wire causing the low beam to appear out. So, now I'll install the new bulb and keep the old as a spare.
