The bulb will physically fit no problem, but will require some wiring mods. Since the light has 2 separate halogen bulbs it has 2 plugs. 1 for low beam and 1 for high beam. I would think HD has an adapter wire harness. They make one for the 14's that goes to the single H4 plug.

HD does make a harness. It's on the 20% sites for around $85. I was looking for one also. Probably order some lamp sockets and build one. I believe the HD one has a diode so you can run high and low beam together. The 14 and newer harness doesn't. The computer controls it. I've read you have to get a digital tech and activate that feature on the new bikes.

Yes..physically the headlight will fit back to 1949 models

you will need to adapt the wiring- you can buy some kinda harness- but with a crimper, you can easily put it together yourself.

That's what i did on my 2009*

the low beam uses a H11 bulb, which is 55 watt.( which is the upper lamp in the housing)

the high beam uses a H9 Bulb which is 65 watt.

a H9 bulb can be used for low beam if you nip a little plastic tang off of the bulb- various websites show how this is done

the quality of the light is quite good

Mike

* and the 2009 headlight is now on my 1953 FLF

I just stumbled upon this site. They offer a ton of different lighting harnesses to change from one style of headlight to another. IE, H4 to H11 low beam and H9 high beam. To make both high and low work at the same time you need a diode installed from the high beam wire to the low beam wire. I'm going to order a harness from there and install my own diode. I'll update when I get it.

using this method..you make wiring spec'd for a 4 amp load carry a 10 amp load.
I'd be very careful, esp if you have a model where all the lighting power runs through the ignition switch....if that burns out you are dead roadside

You could use the above method IF you installed a heavier fused wire from the battery and relays

I thank you for your concern. The factory HD wiring harness #73272-11 uses the method I mentioned. That harness is almost $90. The one I ordered is $25. I can get a pack of diodes for $3. I've done the math regarding the factory wire ampacity. I have read the installation instructions for the dual halogen kit #67700032. They do not require any additional wiring or relays. I wouldn't think that Harley would approve a headlight that could cause problems with the electrical system. I'm not sure, but on the Road Glide with dual headlamps is their 2 fuses? 2 headlight harnesses? I'm going to check my service manual and see.

In a 2011 touring model service manual. Figure B-19. Fairing harness. It shows one 15 amp circuit from the fuse box to the left handlebar control. The indicator switch then feeds power to the high or low beam of the headlight. On a FLTRX Road Glide the second headlamp is powered directly off the same circuit via y type harness. So you would have twice the amp draw on the headlight circuit of a road glide at all times. I think if I run both low and high beam using H9 lamps in each (65w each) that is going to be a combined current draw of 10.83 amps@12 volts. Now if the bike is running and the charging system is putting out closer to 14 volts it'll be 9.29 amps. Both scenarios are much lower than the 15 amp circuit I have available. Now you could argue that a road glide has 60 watt high beams for a total 120 watts. I'm going to be running 130 watts total. I think that a ten watt increase will not be a burden to lighting circuit. I'm going to r risk it.

I had the HID kit from Harley. I was quite surprised they used a Halogen for the high beam. I'm guessing quick response...?

Anyhow I changed the high beam out for an HID H8 kit. If the HID low beam from HD quit - I'd buy the dual lamp and buy a new low beam HID.

I'd get a new harness from NAPA or similar and do some soldering.

Lastly - my high beam is a 60 W HID, so it's really insane bright. I don't high beam unless it is done to me. Then the scene from Raiders when the Germans open the Ark occours. Melting faces... [kidding].

Just an option for bright driving if you're ever riding at night. I'd like to comepare my high beam to LED [HD, Trucklight...] but the oppurtunity hasn't arose yet.

Come on spring....

I ran an HID in my original headlight. It was insane bright. I got high beamed constantly. So i went back to halogen. I was given the dual halogen from a buddy who bought a 14 SG. He moved his daymaker over from his old bike. I'm not impressed with the daymaker. 2 friends complain that they can't see in bends and sweepers with it. We've tried countless adjustments. They both want to get caliper mounted lights or passing lamps to help fill in where the led doesn't. Now that the evo 2 is available I debated getting one. I'm cheap though, so a freebie light and a cheap wiring harness will get me better than stock lighting without breaking the bank. I almost sprung for a used Harley dual lamp with Harley HID that's on eBay, but it's $200 and I'm not sold on putting HID in a halogen housing.

I had a kid high beam me when I was running HID I hit the brights and spots at the same time. Lol!! Poor kid.
