Default '64 Panhead FL

I'm looking into buying a bike that has a '64 FL motor in it. The bike in general is pieced together, but I'm not sure as to the value of the motor. Can anyone tell me what a '64 Panhead is worth, assuming it needs work to run. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Any chance you could post some pics? Helps when determining value.

Lots of folks asking crazy prices for pieced together bikes. A general rule of thumb is that the more original it is, the better the price.

64 should be in a swing-arm frame. The vin will be on the left side of the cases. Inspect it very closely. Lots of bogus numbers out there.

The VIN on the motor looks fine from research. The frame is something purchased along with the tins. It seems like the previous owner was trying to build a bike around the motor. Without spending a lot of time researching, I can't really find any motors similar to this one for sale on the Internet.

Thanks for the pics. Just a cautionary thought...go to www.vintageamericanmotorcycles.com to check your vin against the ones posted on this site. It is a free forum (no sign in). Chris Haynes owns the site and has an excellent selection of vin/case numbers.

From the pics... not much 64 on the bike other than maybe cases (bikes will be titled to match the cases prior to 1970). E-start, evo frame, forward controls, FX style front end, 12 volt system... that just for starters.

Basically what you have is an odd collection of parts that will always be a mutt. Not a bad thing but something that you can never put back to stock unless you have Donald Trump deep (I don't care how much I spend) pockets.

For me 3-4K tops (assuming it needs work to run) because you can recoup the costs at about even parting the bike out. Obviously it is worth what you are willing to pay and what the current owner is willing to let it go for.

If it is a good runner then 6-7K.
