That is what I thought also. I have a 1964 FL all original. I wondered how panz4ever could tell that the outer primary cover was not original 1962 but a 1949 cover from that picture. Very dark on that side. But. Who am I to disagree with panz4ever?
Actually I appreciate being "called on the carpet". I have been only riding pans since 1970 so there are many, many more with a bettter knowledge than me.
With that I went looking further...initially based my assesment on the position of the primary cahin inspection holes and the plug to lube the compensator sprocket. Thing is that the later the outer cover will fit earlier models but not the other way around (49 pans had the inspection cover holes in the same position and an option for plug for compensating sproicket).
The OPs bike had a choice of plug/no plug to lubricate sprocket as well as holes aligned 3-9 position so it took some "non-Jack" reasoning to piece it together.
So. You Are saying the op has a 1949 outer primary cover, and, I do not doubt you in any way. As you are the expert. No challenge from me in any way. shape or form what so ever. I have just owned one 1964 DuoGlide since 1974 the same one. I just ride it .So. I am just a greenhorn on this restore BS. You want to buy it from him? Cool. Why didn't you just say so. Oh. You did. What is he going to do for an original 1962 outer primary cover?

Reason: spacing
PHXBiker, great looking Pan! I also run drums, just gives me time to enjoy and keep it real. Not into stoppies or speeding tickets, just a nice ride with no particular place to be.
I find it very relaxing to just kick it and listen to the Pan breath at a smooth pace. We run north for eats at Ranch House, sit at patio and live life. If your into long rides for great coffee and breakfast check it out. We also drive up if unable to ride. Always a few bikes in parking lot and friendly folks surrounding you up there.
Thanks 2 Wheels. Beautiful Pan you have there. So far I'm just cruzing not too far from home, like you say just enjoying the putt. The rear drums work pretty well, the front not so much. Love the shifting action with the mouse trap and the motor runs great. Brake lights not working so need to figure that out, all the other lights are fine so I just turn on the lights when I stop in the day time, lol.
Where's the Ranch House? Like to check it out. I might take my RK up there but still getting used to the Pan.
PHXBiker, your brake light issues should be easy fix! I installed extra flashing LED brake lights and LED brake and turn signal bar to mine in addition to stock light which is also LED. Some folks go with the extra rear lighting under seat. Once you have book you can see what I'm talking about. PM me if you like.Take care..

Brake light switch could be bad. Brake light filament on bulb could be bad. Could just be a bad connection ,bad ground, where the bulb twist into the housing. Not trying to be a smarty pants. Ours bikes are pretty simple. If there is a problem. Start at the most simple thing and work your way up. A bad ground has been a problem for me many a time. Good Luck.
