Can someone please tell me if the Harley black pieces such as the forks and dash panel on a Softail Slim is powdercoat or something else? My new slim has scratches up and down the fork legs and dash panel right from the dealer new. I tried to polish one of the fork legs with Meguires Finesse it mild polishing compound and it only makes more scratches? If its powder is it not clear coated? Is powder something that cant be buffed out? Thanks
well i always thought that the black on my cases were powder but it is not.
powder is usually not clear coated unless it is a specialty color like chrome powder. you can however clear powder other colors. powder is a heat set poly or epoxy (many formulations) and like all paint, can be buffed out. remember, heat is not your friend with powder nor paint and usually is a multi-stage process. powder can be reflowed but that is some work.
