I just got my fenders and tank back from the shop and got them powder coated gloss black. The gloss black isn't as glossy as i thought it would come out so i was wondering if you could wet sand the coating and spray a clear over it to make it shine...im not too familiar with any restrictions with powder coating
I powder coated for years, and there are different gloss finishes. Perhaps they used one with less than 95% or so gloss? I've never tried to do what you are describing with clear coat, but if I were you and you aren't happy with the finish, take it back. I know if someone specified gloss black and it obviously wasn't glossy, I would have refinished it (of course I would have done it before the customer saw it!)
Good luck!
agreed they used the wrong powder... call them back! tell them to use a wet black from PBTP... it is SICK gloss, but yes you can polish powder, i do it on occasion with orange peel in clears... PBTP also makes a 150% glass clear that just BLINGS!
If you take it to a paint shop for a clear coat tell them they can prep it just like they had painted the base coat. Liquid paint over powder coat works great. However, I'm with the others here and would take it back to the shop that did it to get what you asked for, and nothing less.
WOWWW!!! i just looked at them in the day light and noticed a lot of imperfections and my fender has umm...2"x2" scuff. I just left them a message..a polite one to hopefully get the problem resolved without any issues and i suppose i can go from there. if your works is good...you get good feed back, if it's bad...what do you expect. I think at the least i will just pay them for stripping the paint and maybe take it some where else for the rest. THE BLAST SHOP,INC...KENOSHA WI...be careful guys.
those parts you have up there jrk5892 look nothing like the finish on mine..(my gf has my camera but i will post some pictures) it almost has a grainy textured look to it. i'm a little po'd but i will give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
That sounds more like they didn't prep properly. I can't believe a shop would allow those parts to leave their hands! That's just embarrassing. I'm telling you, take it back to them, make them strip it and recoat it, and make them refund your money. I would be raising he11 about that! I mean this is your scooter we're talking about, not the sides of your washing machine!
