Painting chrome?

Is there a way to paint, say, the fuel gauge a color over the chrome? Just wondering b/c the chrome on mine has some scuffs and scratches.

yeah there's a thread about it somewhere on this forum..i think the jist of it was to scuff it with a scuff pad or 800 grit sandpaper, prime it, wet sand the primer with 1500-2000 grit sandpaper, paint it, let the paint dry, re-wet sand with 1500-2000 grit, repaint (no joke), let dry, re-wet sand, repaint one more time (paint should be smoothe now), and then apply a clear coat, and with no less than 2000 grit paper, wetsand that, reapply clear coat, (resand and reapply as needed).. i just helped a friend do this to a piece off his electra glide (actually plastic chrome..the front part of his fender where that light is) and it worked very well.. didnt look bad at all

Take the gloss off the chrome with a redscuff pad, etch prime it, seal it then basecoat and clear...no need for all those steps...youre not getting any better adhesion.
