Default how & when to attach tank emblems

I should have purchased a set of tank badges with a mount that gets tack welded then badge screwed on but didn't. At this point I need stick-ons. Would, could you use a 2-part epoxy on bare tank then tape and razor blade around badge to paint? Or... Paint, clear finish then adhere badges? Or?

I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks!

The best luck ive had at my shop is to use 3M double sided tape to put the emblems on. We always put them on after final paint work is done. As a note, wait untill the tanks are mounted on the bike to get the placement correct. Have seen many painters install the emblems on tanks before they leave the paint shop. That is incorrect, it may look right off the bike but as soon as you install tank you have a emblem that runs uphill.

That's some sound advice. Thanks Rob!

Is the 3m available at autozone or oreilly's?

Yep, any auto parts store usually has it. If you have a Body shop supply store they will have all different styles and sizes. When you put them on its a 2 or 3 man job. Have one person sit on the bike to stand it upright, make some careful measurements and mark them with a grease pencil, (i like to use a white one), rub the tape with your thumb for a little while before you pull the backing tape off. Make sure u know where u want them and remove backing tape and install. Warning!!! once u stick them on you wont get them off without hurting the paint job so make sure u have them where u want them.

I remove emblems with fishing line and finish up with a 3M eraser wheel never damaged a paint job yet.
