2006 night train
primary chain oil suddenly leaking out of where the belt comes out of the case....
anyone have experiene with this? can i fix it myself??
if its the same leak I just fixed the inner primary seal on my 2000 FB not a hard job at all .Grab a shop manual, pretty strait forward likely will save yourself @ $5oo bucks doing it yourself. I'll help you all I can
Hmmm... he never replied. Just curious, because recently the mainshaft seal on the inner primary of my '95 FLHTCU failed and started leaking. Thought I could save a few dollars and use a James gasket and seal kit. The mainshaft bearing seemed fine, so I chose not to replace it. I noticed that the James seal was a sinlge lip design, where the factory was a double lip design. Hmmm.... This did not make me feel very comfortable, but I went a head anyway.
Bad idea. Now I get to do it again. And it will be with factory parts and will include replacing the mainshaft bearing. The reason for replacing it is because even though it looked good, there *can* be just enough wear on the rolloers to allow the mainshaft to be deflected enough to pull away from the front or back edge of the seal just enough to allow leakage. At least it's an easy job and doesn't require any special tools or take long.
