Default Transmission removal

Hello everyone,
I am currently restoring a 1979 Low Rider , Shovelhead with a 4speed tranny. For dissasembling, all I have left is to remove the motor and transmission to have the frame recoated. Anyone have any tips on the tranny removal. I have one of the manuals but sometimes nothing beats personal experience. It looks like I need to take off the primary chain and clutch assembly but im not sure if that is totally nessessary. Any advice is appreciated.

If you have a primary chain on your ride you will need to take the entire primary inner cover off. It means having to take the starter off and yes the clutch. The clutch needs to come off toallow you to pull the tranny away from the inner primary cover and there should be bolts bolting your inner primary to the tranny behind the clutch basket. Once thats done the tranny should come off with a couple of bolts removed. If you have a open belt then you can take the clutch off with it.
