I've watched a few videos and have adjusted the clutch cable and clutch basket accordingly. Works fine, but I'm looking to find our how I can adjust the lever - cable or clutch plates to engage earlier (closer to the hand grip) or if that's even possible. Searched here extensively and can't find an answer. Anyone know? Thanks in advance
You can adjust the friction zone where the clutch starts to bite at the clutch push rod adjuster.
Go through the whole procedure and when you screw in the adjuster at the clutch basket, Harley says to screw out the adjuster between half and a full turn. Screwing out the adjuster only half a turn, will move the friction zone closer to the bars, as in the clutch will bite earlier as you release the clutch lever. The opposite is also true, 1 full turn out will move the friction zone away from the handle bar, closer to the end of the clutch lever's travel.
The 1/2 to a full turn adjustment are Harley's parameters, to prevent clutch slip - adjuster too far in, or clutch drag - adjuster too far out. Personally, I have mine at a third of a turn out which puts the friction zone exactly where I want it close the the bars without any clutch slip.
