Broken Return Spring?
just returned from a cold weather ride on my 2003 Dyna Lowrider. Just a half mile from home, my shift foot pedal became stuck in first gear and my EZ clutch hand clutch became floppy, inoperable, and wouldn’t spring back into place. I could force the foot pedal to get it into neutral, but it’s obvious something is busted. Assume from general research that its a broken return spring, but who knows when dealing with the tranny.
Question is, is this simple enough that can I tackle this myself when it warms up? Or should I just bite the bullet and have my local Harley dealership do it. Regarding the latter, any idea how much $$$ they’ll charge to do a return spring? Thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated.
The loose clutch lever is telling you there is an issue in the clutch control mechanism, somewhere between the clutch lever and the clutch itself.
Remove the clutch release mechanism cover, inspect the ball and ramp, the throwout bearing, cable etc.
Remove the derby cover, make sure the clutch adjustment stud and jamnut, adjuster plate, and retaining ring are intact.
