Is your bike lowered?
I have Shotgun Shocks and if I slam it the belt gets tight and it's hard to shift.

Try raising it a little or loosening the drive belt.
Check it, I bet it's real tight.

Try adjusting the clutch.. Check fluid level in the primary. It may be too high.

How long have you been riding this bike?

Correct adjustment is always important, but correct technique is necessary also.

Twist the throttle just enough to raise the RPMs and just when they start to drop, bump the shifter up. Takes some practice but comes natural after time. Also, you can bump it up into neutral just as you're coming to a stop.

I always had issues trying to find neutral when hot on my 98.. What you can do is install a 21 degree ramp in the right side cover and 10 mm bearings instead of the .0375" stock bearings. 1998 was the first year with the updated clutch shell and 9 plate disc setup.. The most amount of separation at the pressure plate that I could get was .068" making it difficult to find neutral hot.. After I made the upgrade I was getting .084" separation and never had another issue finding neutral...
