How much play
 \\; \\; \\; How much play should there be on the starter shaft? \\; I have an 86 FXR that doesn't want to start, the Relay clicks and the solenoid clicks... it just doesn't engage the starter.  \\; Which, according to the service manual says its either a bad solenoid or something is binding up on the shaft side.
I checked the solenoid and it at least appears to be working, and the starter shaft has a whole lot of play in it... and sometimes I cant slide it in and out (it binds up).
Probable cause? \\; bad bearings? \\; any thing?
