Default 69 xlch clutch cable

Hi All, need some help replacing clutch cable . kinda new at the harley but not afraid to get my feet wet. the question I have, is the distribitor or the thingy hanging on top of the case cover, below the carb, does that need to come off first. and does the carb need to come off also? sorry but my manual has not come in yet, and nice weather is fading fast.. Capt.

When I replaced the clutch cable on my 67 Sporty, only needed to remove the left chain/case cover. No need to remove the carb.
