Default clutch, primary chain, compensating sprocket

I was reading the HD Service Manual and trying to educate myself when I ran upon this lovely tidbit. “Remove clutch, primary chain, compensating sprocket and shaft extension as a single assembly.”

What is the theory behind having to remove the “clutch, primary chain, compensating sprocket and shaft extension as a single assembly.” This is documented in Chapter 6.5 (Primary Chain case), page 6-19 and page 6-24 of the2005 HD Touring Models Service Manual.

Is the wear on this assembly that critical to the compensating sprocket assembly (torque absorber)?

I think the reasoning behind this is that you end up knowing the chain is in the same direction as it was before. The chain will wear faster if you reverse its direction.
Also I found it to be easier to pull out and put back in.

Just my $.02.

it's merely a matter of the primary chain doesn't have enough slack in it to be removed from one pulley or the other, thus you have to pull them both at the same time.

That's exactly it.

That was my other thought. I could not get enough slack to get the chain off anyways.
