Default Oil in primary case

My 89 fxsts has been sitting for about 3 months. I checked the oil tank today and it was very low. There is no leaking under the bike. I checked the primary case and its over full with motor oil (about 4 qts.) Whats leaking? Thanks, Vago Lumpy

Hopefully it's the mainshaft engine seal If not possibly a bad left case HD had problems with the timkin bearing race in this time frame (casting the steel race into the alum left case ) HD didn't know what to do so they eliminated casting the stl race in 1993 Good luck

Sounds like a shaft seal of some sort.....looks like the primary has to come off.

BTW....If you're going to be here....do us a favor, and introduce yourself in the introductions thread.

No intention on my part to be rude at all.

Happy to have you here!

Go to the main forum page.

I believe it's the first selection....you'll see everybody is introducing themselves.

On the bike....UNFORTUNAELY, it sounds like the primary will have to come off, and the seal or bearing that separates the tranny from the primary.....my guess is it's a seal, is just old and it let the tranny oil seep into the primary. Does your clutch slip? Typically, when you have too much oil in the primary, the clutch slips.

Any questions feel free to ask.

~Joe
