Just put new shifter/controls on a 95 heritage, now it wont shift into 1st gear so i took off the linkage and notice it had some spring pressure on it. When i put it back on should i shift it into neutral and then line it up or am i supposed to put it in gear and then adjust the linkage? I am having to push linkage backward a little with my foot after shifting so it will go through the gears? Prior to removal shifted fine, i am running a 110 with a 6 speed.
you have a bind in the linkage.
.
jack bike up , remove the linkage all the way to the tranny lever.
it should be spring loaded to the center of its travel.
shift the bike from the lever by hand ...work ok ???
( move rear wheel to shift gears)
now add the shift rod, again shift by hand ..ok?
now hook up the shft rod to the foot shifter..work ok ??
some where in this procedure , you will find the problem
