What is the difference between the 2007 HD 6 speed; Se 6 speed and Baker 6 speed as far as gear ratios?
I don't see how people can state that one 6 speed is better than the other, unless they have ridden 3 identical bikes, back to back, with identical road conditions, using each different 6 speed.
Tom
And what you have just said is impossible, three identical, and so on. As close as you can come is a mechanical rider on a dyno, no mean feat. At least 10 runs of each road load cycle would have to be done to increase the confidence in the final, one-is-better-than-another, answer. This problem occurs often in engineering where components are compared supposedly under identical conditions.
Well for one reason the Baker DD6 (Direct Drive) spins only one gear at a time while the SE spins both when in 6th. This reduces the amount of hp and the bike will see more hp at the rear wheel.
DIRECT POWER TRANSFER In non-DD6 overdrive transmission in sixth gear, there is a power transfer between the two gears that make up the sixth gear pair and also between the two gears for the fifth gear pair. Engine efficiency is lost in order to spin two sets of gears in the transmission (four gears total). This is a loss of horsepower and so you get less power to the rear wheel, you burn more fuel doing it, and you get more transmission racket.
Comparison graphic showing the 6th-gear power transfer through a conventional overdrive 6-Speed (top illustration) versus the BAKER Direct Drive 6-Speed (bottom illustration). THE RESULT: Less horsepower is wasted and less noise is projected.
