I just replaced the drive belt on my 2004 road king classic due to it breaking. bike has 86,850 miles on it.
When i start the bike up at idle it seems to be vibrating ALOT Rougher then it used too. While riding in ANY gear at ANY speed the vibration is so bad my legs go numb. I feel the vibration in the floor boards, seat, pretty much the whole bike except the handle bars.
I took the primary cover off and reinspected and checked the torque on compensator and all seems ok.
Any ideas, help, point in the right direction would be awesome. I'm out of work so bringing it to a dealer is out of the question.
I checked the mounts, pulleys and also rolled down a fairly steep hill with bike off. Smooth as glass. Turn the bike on it just about rattles my teeth loose. This is my 4th Harley and I have been riding them since I was a kid. This is driving me nuts. Before I took everything off it ran nice and smooth with usually Harley vibration. NOW feels like the bike is gonna rattle itself apart, AT Idle, or going down the road. I pulled compensator, clutch and chain off and reseated them. The Hard vibration is still there. If riding down the road you lean over put your hard on the primary you can feel the vibration more so in the front of the primary. Thats why I was thinking Compensator. I can't find anything wrong.
How was the belt broken? Is there any change in the vibration with clutch enaged/dis engaged? Did you replace the IPB? How did the IPB race look?
I know that the belt replacement and the asociated work is the logical place to start looking for the problem. However, it could be that the source has nothing to do with the vibration and the vibration would have shown up even if the old belt had not broken.
I back down my driveway, engaged the clutch, 1st gear and went to drive away when i felt a pop and then nothing. Got off the bike and saw the belt in the road. I don't ride this bike hard at all. Everything looked good.
