Mine came stock on my 05 King. I also use it every day. Make yourself get into the habit. You have a key fob, press and hold once, iginition disabled. Press and hold twice, ignition enabled. It can't be simpler. Mine doesn't blast a horn, just doesn't let the bike start.

If that's a Softail you're riding the dealer may be slightly misinformed about the siren installation. It does install under the rear fender splash guard but the wheel does not have to come off. It's a simple plug & play procedure that takes less than 15 minutes. Remove the guard (two bolts located at bottom of fender), plug existing connector into siren, push siren into existing mounting bracket, reinstall guard. I did mine laying on the floor of the garage - figured it would take as long to put the bike up on the jack as it would to do the entire install.

I have the pager as well & use the security system everytime I leave the bike out of sight. It's faster for me to hit the key fob than for my buddys to remove their keys & lock their forks.

I agree with those that say car alarms are ignored, but I've found that when the bike alarm goes off any & all bikers within hearing range come to see what's going on (yes I have set it off a few times by accident when it was first installed) & don't leave until they're satisfied it's my bike. The siren also discourages those that think they are welcome to sit on any unattended bike.
How tough of a job is it to install the siren on a RK? Surely, I don't have to remove my rear wheel.

Yeah, I agree with this. Will be getting the siren and the factory security with mine. My old japanaese bike had one to with a 'panic' button remote on the fob. I could see my bike from my office window and would hit the button once in while when people got to close. Godd times.

As for the lock, I'm thinking of gtting a big cable number. Like the idea Art had of bringing it inside instead!

I use the factory security system every day. Anytime I get off the bike, Ihit the fob to disable the electrical, and if I am not in my garage, I lock the front forks as well. If the want it, they will get it, but I can at least make it a tad more difficult for them. May have to look at the siren.....might not be a bad idea....

I use mine when I am away from the house. I like to think of it as the Keyless entry that I have for my truck. I have yet to use the key that came with the bike. I arm it and walk away. I have not even used the fork lock as of yet, or even locked my saddle bags either.

My bike came with the alarm and siren installed. I use the key fob everytime I am away from my bike in public. At home, I just keep the bike locked up in my garage.

The pager is nice and it has a decent range. It loses the signal if you go into a big building though. The pager has it's own little key fob that vibrates and buzzes if someone sets off the alarm. You still need the other key fob to set/disarm the alarm. I keep the keys, key fob and pager fob all on one key ring. Keep in mind that you have to buy the Smart Siren II or else you can't use the pager. The pager operates off the antenna that's attached to the siren. You can't use the pager without buying the siren.

The pager is not included with the security system.

I agree that if someone really wants the bike its history, but no reason to make it easy for them. I have a 2000 EG Classic and installed the security system and Smart Siren II myself. I also had to install the wiring harness for the system, but the later bikes have it alreay there making install much easier. I also use the pager. I arm the system every time I am not close to the bike, as well as lock the fork, so that it becomes a habit. If I am going to be gone a while or not staying real close I also use a disk lock. It doesnt take but a minute to do this stuff, and hopefully makes the bike hard enough to take to send the bad folks looking for something easier to steal.
