New bike throwing codes after taillight relocation addition
ago and have been straight up loving it! I did some mods to it myself and now its throwing a couple codes. I bought the bike with 13 miles on it and now Im up to about 500. I did a tail light relocation kit, passenger pillion, passenger foot pegs and detachable saddlebags. Im pretty confident in my soldering abilities but its the only reason I can come up with as to why my brand new bike is throwing codes. I didnt do what the instructions said to do and tear apart the tail lights and run a completely new wire harness to each of them and the license plate brake light. I just soldered in 5 of extra wire (wire provided in the kit) to each of the wires and replugged everything in. Everything works great, to be honest I was pretty damn proud of myself. Maybe error codes are more common than I would expect them to be, but it seems wrong to have to keep resetting them multiple times a day. It only starting giving me issues today. I did the relocation wiring about a week ago. The codes its throwing are u04576, u014000, and then its saying part number 70900971. Ive tried looking them all up online and I cant find ANYTHING. Also, the dealership forgot to give me my owners manual (kinda my fault too for not noticing but I was just so stoked to get my first bike). I didnt notice a Nightster forum so I assumed since sportsters are pretty much the more badass version of my bike, maybe someone can help a brother out
I don’t own a Rev Max, but if you don’t pull the main fuse on touring bikes when you start unplugging things, like lights, it will throw codes. You can clear the codes, and they won’t come back if that’s all it is.
Yea, Im about to take it in for its 1000 mile check up here in 5 days or so, maybe the dealer can help out.
As far as the soldering goes, if anything, I overdid it with the wire overlap and solder and shrink tubing.
I wonder how much it would have cost for them just to have professionally installed everything. I ended up scratching the hell out of my rear fender putting ir all back together. Mixture of inexperience and frustration. Thank you all for the responses
