I installed my side mount tag mount which has about 5 little led lights that shine on the tag.... What I did was to splice into the hot wire running to the tail light so that the leds would light when I turn on the key..... Sound OK? Well everything worked when I tested it.... tail light worked brake light worked and blinkers worked.... Cool..... So I soldered everything up and finished the install.... Get on and go for a ride and noticed that when I use the left turn signal it also makes my little red key thing in the speedo flash too.... don't do it when I use the right only the left....... Could it be because of the leds or maybe because it's drawing to much?
Maybe a load leveler? Shouldnt be a draw problem though...LED's are pretty efficient. if im reading right youve tapped into the brake light wire though and not a specific blinker. I only say load leveler because people use them when they switch to LED bulbs in blinkers.

LEDS draw almost no current, and it sounds like you spliced into the correct place.
Does your new tag lamp ground thru the chasis, or is there a ground wire that splices into another ground wire in the tailamp?
Just sounds like a ground issue to me - did you remove the left rear signal when you did this intall? Maybe pinched the wire, or have a bad ground there?
When I mounted my sidemount, the instructions specifically said to tap into the loom under the seat on the front side of the connection. It probably has to do with load equalization as the LEDs don't draw as much power. I am also still using my factory taillight vs. stand alone, so that might have something to do with it.

Sorry couldn't be more help.
New install looks killer!
It does have 2 wires coming from it....red and black.... I just put the black wire under a screw under the seat!
Maybe I should connect it into a ground from the system?
