Default Memphis BBQ?

Friend & I will be riding from enid ok to Memphis TN . Purpose of the trip is to eat at some hole in the wall rib joint. It's roughly 550 mile one way trip. We plan on stopping near Fayetteville on the way or and staying in little rock on the way back. Any suggestions for to die for Memphis BBQ ?

I would highly recommend turning off of I-40 in Russellville, Arkansas, onto scenic Highway 7 and head south to McClard's BBQ in Hot Springs. Meets your criteria as some of the best hole-in-the-wall BBQ anywhere and Hwy 7 is one of the best motorcycle roads in the south. Plus, Hot Springs is a pretty cool riding destination.

If that's too far out of the way, stop at the Morgan exit off I-40 just west of Little Rock and check out the Shack BBQ.

Another great spot is Craig's BBQ in DeVall's Bluff, between Little Rock and Memphis.

Unless you just have a hankering to go to Graceland or see Beale Street I'd skip Memphis, it's pretty much the armpit of the state of Tennessee in my opinion.

If you do make Memphis go to the Blues City Café on Beale.

And be very careful where you go in Memphis.

I will be there in February for a buddy's birthday party. This thread definitely is of interest for me. Really good BBQ is oddly difficult to find in North Dkota.

I second Rendevous and Blues City Cafe. Also try Gus's for fried chicken. We go to the one north of town in Mason. Definitely hole in the wall.

About being careful?
Just like any major city, there are places to avoid. Memphis has lots of these places. Stay on the 'beaten path'.

I really liked BB King's on Beale St. I guess it's not really a hole in the wall, but the food was good, there was a lot of it, and it was reasonable.

If you make Memphis, don't miss the ducks at the Peabody Hotel just off of Beal St.
