Anyone have a way to store or strap a cowboy hat efficiently? My wife got for me a Double H Beaver custom hat for Xmas and would love to take it on trips but it's stiff and I Dont have a TP
I'm so confused.
Double HH, (damn, those ta-tas are huge.)
Beaver? (gotcha...)
Stiff? (obviously)
Toilet paper? (hmmm)
Sounds like the makings for a memorable motorcycle trip...
But what the hell does all that have to do with a cowboy hat?
I just can't see how dedicating all the room required to carry the hat would be worth it. Also, when you're not on your bike, how are you going to secure it. Leave it at home.
I have a Cody James (Boot Barn brand, I think) black, stiff brim. I leave it at home when I ride. You COULD fit it in a tour pack (If you decided to buy one) but then you can't put much else in there. You could get a cowboy hat box and strap it on but then you cannot have a passenger.
As far as basic hat care, what I found helps to keep its shape is to take a piece of cardboard and make it into a ring, but tall enough to keep the crown off the surface it will be stored on.
Hat came with the ring and a hard box. May strap box to seat as I will be solo.
Will post pics as I love this hat. Laura.my wife and Jimmy at Double H did a great job.
Being a New York City Irish guy getting ok with the fact that I have to wear hats due to sun damage has been tough. Having a fine hat sure helps.
I know someone who also has to wear hats and packs the interior of the hat with rolled tshirts, socks, skivvies, soft stuff so the shape stays intact, then packs around the brim of the hat as well. I might suggest a little less expensive hat for travelling, maybe a straw, as they hold their shape better and require less maintenance. A hard side plastic hat box is a good start for protection, and using the above packing method, you wont be giving up a ton of room.
I have a Resistol 20X Black Gold that I keep and carry in a hard plastic hat box. I could strap the box onto just about anything. Since you don't have a tour pac, you could strap the box to the top of your soft luggage or onto the luggage rack. You can get such a box at any western wear store that sells quality hats, or on line.
