I have the fairing mounted 660 Zumo HD RoadTech. With the unit off of the mount there is a black cover that goes over the pins and you can barely tell the mount is there when not in use. The Road tech is 649 retail and can be had for less. Is it worth it? I think so for the fact that it can be interfaced with your radio so that it gives turn directions through the system, is Bluetooth and has MP3 capabilities so you can play music through the HD audio system.

I have never tried to import routes with it. On a trip I just build custom routes for each day's travels with waypoints so the route takes me exactly where I want to go.

It does take a lot of clicking but I have had problem with the route showing up sometimes.. I usually have google maps open in satellite mode because when I plan a 4000+ mile trip it's to specific places. Your allowed up to 500 waypoints per route too. Garman Basecamp support is good also. I've broken down the route to segments but this year I'm going to make it one route. Always put the route on a data card as a backup to take with you.
I have a Zumo 450 with is starting to fall behind as far a memory capacity.

Not going to lie it can be frustrating...or go to zumoforums.com a lot of info there....

Could you report back on it? You seem to have a lot of the same concerns as I do.

I used to use Tyre, but now it will not work with my Nuvi 2597. It will only recognize the start & end waypoint & then calculate its route based on the GPS preferences. It ignores every waypoint in-between.

I now use Basecamp & it works very well. Takes a bit of time to get used to BC, but it uses the map that is on your GPS, so you will not have any surprises with your route.

Know that the standard Zumo will not interface with the HD radio system if that is a feature that is important to you, and it will not work with the fairing mount.
