I love a night in a hammock. Too many nights sleeping on hard ground in the Army, but a hammock with a poncho overhead to keep the rain off and thats perfect. Nothing like it, and it saves on space in the bags. For you boys rolling your baggers, not a big deal, haha, you can take everything but the kitchen sink, but I have to be careful on the Dyna...

Also with a tent if you get lucky you have a little privacy.

It all depends. If my wife is with me I pull the KwickKamp. She has a bad back and it keeps her off the ground with room to stand and dress. If I'm by myself a sleeping bag and cheap dome tent or tarp from WalMart will do. Sometimes I combo the cheap tent and carry a small tarp to set it up on to keep ground moisture off the bottom of tent. Makes for quicker tear downs and back on the road in the mornings instead of sitting around waiting for a tent to dry. Never done the hammock thing. Just seems like one more thing on the bike doesn't need to be there.
