need suggestions for new orleans as starting point for a ride
New to the forums and looking forward to some advice. Trying to plan a 5 or 6 night ride in a month or so starting in New Orleans and taking off from there. I figured we would hit Miss, and Tx and ride through some bayou and back country. any ideas on some great roads and towns to stop at night? thanks
T
If you are starting in New Orleans and you are going to go West, I would say you going to blow out too much time on flat open land unless that is what you like.
You are limiting yourself to 5 or 6 nights so what I would suggest doing figuring your comment about backroads and all is to head up toward Tennessee, over to the Carolinas and down through Georgia doing a big loop.
You can take in a great deal of beautiful land/scenery and many, many good roads like the Tail Of The Dragon and many other roads. that way, you are not going to get bored with flat open land that you will hit when you enter into Texas on a limited timeframe.
Although they do have the twisted sisters down there, I would not say that is the most efficient use of your riding time.
From NOLA, you can take Chef Highway (90) East. The first few miles are pretty rough and I would not plan on stopping. Then you hit the marsh. Nice little ride all the way over and across the MS Gulf Coast. Probably take two hours to ride across if you just ride. We always stop at Crazy Al's for a beer. There are Swamp tours, a fort to explore, casinos, etc.
