Digital camera tip
Most probably know this already, but start your trip with a "clean" memory card, take lots of road sign pics and do not erase anything during the trip. Everything will be in chronological order at the end and easier to figure out...
Often I see people we travel with dumping pics they don't like at the end of the day and it leaves memory holes to be filled in by later pics out of sequence; then at home they're trying to figure out the age-old question "where was this?"

Good advice, I've been guilty after a trip of having pictures I couldn't recall where they were taken. I always wished for (it probably exists I just don't know about it) the ability to sync a quick voice recording for description to photos as they're taken.
Well another effective method would be at the end of the days ride, while sipping on a wobblie pop, you can always jot down a few of the memorable thoughts in a note pad /daily log book/ diary, that way it starts the writing juices going. You can always shoot a pic of the notes to help with the order of the pictures on the card.
I am a technophobe for the most part. But I've noticed that when I take pics with my iPhone, when it is downloaded to my computer, it says just where I was when I took the pic.
For my long ride, though, I like using a stand alone digital camera.

Yes, iOS will geo-tag your photos on teh iphone automatically. And as the other poster pointed out, your digital camera will date-stamp each photo.
On particularly long trips and in areas where the vistas blend together (like the BRP), I will often take a picture with my dSLR for quality and then take an identical shot with my iphone in order to get the exact geo-tag information for recall once I get home and create the memory-book. I have a 64Gb iphone so I always have plenty of room to do this.
I picked up this trick while doing some backpacking trips as there are no town signs in the backcountry.

For those doing GoPro stuff...Don't just ride for two hours with the camera rolling. I got done riding the prettiest portion of the Pacific Coast Highway only to find out the sea air had dirtied the camera lens beyond recognition. Guess I have to ride that portion again.
