Anybody ride this very recently? I was thru there today and it is posted CLOSED from Deavertown to 37 however it appeared it was actually open. Does anybody know for sure what the status of it is?
I've been hearing talk of it might be closing RT.555 down to local residents only. Something about just way to many crashes and complaints from people that live alone it. Don't see how that can be done, never know these days.
The website of Fink's Harley Davidson in Zanesville, OH has the following notice posted:
NOTICE: Beginning 4/10/15 State Route 555 in Perry County will be closed between Deavertown in Morgan County to State Route 37 in Portersville. ODOT made the decision to close the road due to deteriorating road conditions. The road will be open to local business and residents until work can begin in late May. Traffic will be detoured via State Route 93N to State Route 669E to State Route 37W to Morgan County State Route 555.
OK, I scouted it on Thursday and rode on the "closed" portion - too much gravel where they are repairing it. It is passable but a pain in the butt and you are not missing anything good.
Today I took the detour. Took it to SR 37 and then 37 east to 555. SR 37 IS NOT MARKED AS DETOUR so make sure you turn on it. It takes you to exactly the end of the construction mess and you miss the gravel. You miss maybe 5 miles of the 555 but the detour is pretty nice riding.
Overall good ride today. There were some turns with gravel in them but it was minimal.
If you are down that way check out SR56 out of Athens. Another good ride but they are repaving a portion of it (approx. 5 miles or so) but the area being repaved is not in the curvy parts.
