Default Should be good for some Lasting memories....

Have been in the planning stage of a road trip for about 6 months now..Plan on leaving July 5th, with my 8 year old grandson and heading to the Black Hills area. Last time I was in that area was over 20 years ago and not on a bike. So the plan is to travel North from Central Arkansas thru Missouri and stop in Iowa for the night. Then on to Sioux Falls SD, where I think we will head east a little ways just to say we went to Minnesota ah..then Stop and camp in the badlands around the Minuteman Missile visitor center. plan on touring that if possible then on to Rapid City for a few days taking in Devils tower, Deadwood, and Rushmore, then coming back home thru the Sand hills of Nebraska into Kansas and down thru Kansas and into the Tulsa area (Never been to Tulsa) as we make our way home...Looks like about 7 days without pushing too hard. Any ideas on other stuff to see or do in those areas are welcomed....Will post pics when we return. Got a little Kodak digital camera I'm going to put a strap on and let my grandson have at it on the way there and back...

Have a friend that used to take his 9 year old on all the rides we used to go on. Usually 5 to 7 days. He was a joy to travel with. Steve had a belt that he tied around him and Jake because Jake would sometimes go to sleep and Steve wanted him secure when he dozed off.

No suggestions for the trip, but just got off a 4 day with my son (14) and I second the idea of a harness of some sort in case he falls asleep. My son is big enough that he "CAN'T" fall off, but I can definitely tell when he starts dozing and begins the fall asleep jerks.

Enjoy the hell out of your ride and time with your grandson, it is priceless.

Have fun. I'd love to do something like this with one of my kids but I either need to get a touring bike or a big sissy bar. They always complain they can't lean back. Then I need to get my wife not to freak out about a trip like that with the kids.

Look at my pic...guilty! We were putting a trip down on paper for when school is over. Some family issues in the way. Looks like shorties instead of a long one now

happy trails and blessings. Safe trip.

We did your route on the way to Idaho a few years ago. Stayed at Missouri Valley, IA at a super 8. reasonable, easy. You probably have reserves already.

Our issues opened up. Not sure where or how much, but my riding man and I will get something in
