Going to be Leaving Morrison 8/19. Return trip to Arkansas. We have until the 26th to be back in Little Rock. What routes to get up to Durango/Silverton and then head back east would get us the most bang for our buck time wise?
Saw this on another thread. coming from Morrison how would we get here?
Million Dollar Highway, Durango to Montrose. Wolf Creek Pass, Durango to South Fork. Silver Thread, South Fork to Gunnison. Gunnison to Salida, Salida to Colorado Springs via Royal Gorge and Canyon City. If you go to Colorado Springs take a side trip to Pikes' Peak.
Morrison where? Need to know where you are coming from and where you are going to give you the best routes. Are you coming from Ark. and going back to Ark. or is Morrison in some other location?

Going to Morrison Colorado for a trip to Red Rocks Amphitheater, see a couple of shows return trip is to Arkansas. We basically have 5 days to ride the area and want to make sure we run the Million Dollar Highway.
Got the route and it would be great if I were going straight back but I have 5-6 days to ride the mountains. I figured to run thru Raton and around Las Vegas NM and Santa Rosa too.
I want to get up thru Telluride CO and Durango Silverton area prior to heading east
You have 5 to 6 days in the mountains, here is what I would consider. From Morrison go up 36 to Estes Park, and take 34 and 40 back to I-70. (Rocky Mountain National Park). Then go west on I-70 to 91 and take 91 to Leadville. From there 24 to Poncha Springs and 50 to Gunnison. From Gunnison take 50 to Montrose and 550 to Durango (Million Dollar Highway). You can take a side trip to Teluride from Ridgeway.
From Durango take 160 to Pagosa Springs then go south on Chama and 64 to Taos. This will put you in the Santa Fe, Raton area.
In Taos there is the Enchanted Circle, Taos, Red River, Angel Fire and back to Taos. See the Vietnam Memorial in Angel Fire. A side trip would be the "High Road to Taos" (Taos to Santa Fe) Highway 518. When you leave Taos go to Mora and then I-25 to Raton, or 64 to Cimarron and then to Raton.
Unless you have some reason to go to Santa Rosa, I would skip it. Not much out there.
If you do the route from Leadville take a side trip on 82 between Leadville and Buena Vista to Independence Pass. This is about a 30 mile 1 way ride, but well worth it. Pass is over 12,000 ft. and a must do if you are close in the area.
