Sweet, I'll most likely stop by on the way back home. We don't have any plans past our first leg of the trip. Gonna be an adventure!

The first time I visited Crater Lake was in 1978. I rode there the day the road to it opened for the season and I had to ride with a wall of snow on each side of me. That was eerie. Then I got to see the lake on a day when the weather was clear. It was spectacular. In 2013 I got to see it again on another clear day. If you are ever nearby, this is a must.

The temps will be maybe 20 degrees cooler by the lake than in the valley. I was sweating my *** off around 90 degrees getting to the lake. Then around the lake, I was freezing my nards off almost. Snow was still around, but not on the road or in mass. Just keep in mind the dips and bumps in the road are blind. You'll never see them, so be prepared. Some of those cliffs are mighty scary with nothing to stop you from going over.

stayed at the cabins one night. regret not planning two. well worth seeing. I guess we were lucky with the weather and temps. did not really research it well enough as it was a spot on the map on the homeward leg of doing the Oregon coast.

Id definitly go for it, the temp will probably be a lot warmer than the coast. Coming from the coast you should definitly consider taking hwy 38 at Reedsport and when you get to Elkton cross the bridge and take a right on hwy 138 to Southerlin. The ride on the Diamond Lake hwy (138) from Roseburg to Crater Lake is awesome.
