how many here have done Tail of the Dragon 129 and Washington 129. If so I would like to hear some opinions before I express mine. Which one did you like better? That kind of thing.
To be honest we stumbled across the NC dragon years ago. Had a cop in a town nearby stop and ask us if that was where we were headed. Circling the park, we stopped there and spent the night... rode it several times. I think some of the appeal is no roads coming into it. Got behind a semi on one of the runs.... so that was over... ha.
I have no experience on the other road. Just saying, to me the NC dragon was an experience, but don't think I would drive hours just to do it. I liked other roads in that area just as much
I used to hit US 129 once a week, and I live in Ohio I'm riding down Wednesday and coming back Thursday this week. Less traffic so you get cleaner runs. The Cherohala is good through the week as well.
Well here is my take. I rode Tail of the Dragon last year and was impressed. BUT. On my recent trip out west I had a chance to ride down Washington 129. All I can say is WOW!!! Makes the tail seem like Tail of Puff the magic dragon. I didn't count the curves but there were more stay on the road or die moments. My only complaint is that the guys from out west have been hiding this road from the rest of U.S.
thanks for this post. Got me seriously looking at the Hell's canyon area. I knew it was there but had to skip it a few years ago on my western wandering. Need to get out there again. I'll let you know about that road...ha
