Default Tetons

On our trip this summer we will be going by the Tetons on our way to Jackson Wy. The maps I have just show basic road ways traveling along them. Are there any roads that I should take to get up into the mountains?
I will be coming from Yellowstone down to Jackson and then back up a day or so later.

Thoughts?

There's probably a good chance that others here have been to the Tetons and will know of some roads for ya but when I was there in 2011, I found the locals very biker friendly and one guy that I met, offered me a lot of good ideas of what to see in the area, maybe you could ask the people in Jackson also about which roads would be open or good for travel. Enjoy your trip because I was at both Yellowstone and Jackson on my way to Sturgis in 2011.

The only road that goes where you want is Wyoming 22 over Teton Pass, a road you should take. That said, the views are all great from any of the roads out of Jackson, or north from Victor ID (consult your map). Basically, the Tetons are not laced with roads, just those at a distance.

We did the same route in 2013. We rode past the Tetons on 26 coming out of the South Gate of Yellowstone. Lots of places to pull over and take pictures or just be impressed. That morning we broke camp in West Yellowstone, did a full day in the park and then saw the Tetons heading to Jackson for the night. For photography lighting was poor in the late afternoon.

Hard to explain but the main road is at the top of a plateau, the river and base of mountains are at a lower level and the mountains are on the other side of the river. The next day we rode back up and took the Teton Park Road which gets you much closer and at the lower elevation. We found Jenny Lake and took the boat ride to the other side. Then you can hike around, some small waterfalls etc. Many real hikers took the boat to go up the mountains. Real nice time, bring water, very very dry.

The last day we rode to Idaho via the Teton Pass, real nice road, then hooked back up with 26 to Idaho Falls. Enjoy, great part of this country.

This from 89/26/191 south.

You indicate that you will be traveling from Yellowstone south so I would recommend that just after Colter Bay instead of following 26/287 to Moran that you bear right along Jackson Lake towards Moose. This will give you the added view of Jenny Lake. Either way the views are great.

There just aren't a lot of paved roads in the area. Look at the Teton Village to Moose Jct.( Moose Wilson Rd.) road. There is a tram you can ride $$$ at Teton Village that will give you a great view of the area.

Definitely ride the Teton Park road, much better view of the Mts than Hwy 191. The road that takes you along Jenny Lake to Jenny Lake Lodge is nice.

Have a great trip,

If you're coming from MN, you must put the Beartooth Hwy on the itinerary.
