OK, group of us riding out of Stowe area for a few days in August. One trip will be to the Adirondacks. Looking for a good route and some great roads once in the Adirondacks. Also some good places to stop; sites, bars, restaurants up in the Adirondacks. Will probably make Lake Placid a stop.
Ausable Chasm on Rt. 9, Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, Mirror Lake, Steak/Seafood House Restaurant in Lake Placid.
My favorite roads of all time: 86, 3, 30, 28N, 28. Take a break on Rt. 30 at Long Lake's only Bridge, Town Park/Swimming. Also, Rt. 30 at Fish Creek's Campground, Ask for visitor's pass to tour the beautiful 'one way' campground.
Daikers Bar/Restaurant on Fourth Lake on 28, Tony Harper's Pizza and Clam Shack in Downtown Old Forge and White Birch Café in Tupper Lake's good too.
We have friends from NH, when riding upstate NY we meet them in Troy. Dinosaur BBQ is well worth the stop for lunch or dinner. Last time on the way home we made the final evening in Troy, booked rooms in the Best Western across the street and had our final party in Dinosaur. Good time was had by all, though the white hairs in BW were not quite sure what to do with us!!!!
Lake George is also a good stop as well as you mentioned Lake Placid. A little further south is Nick's Waterfall House in Gilboa, real old school biker dive. Good burgers, cheap beer and great view of the falls.
