1978 miles from Sunday to Friday. Went from coastal Alabama to Huntsville, rode over the smoky mountains four times using various twisty roads (Cherohala Highway, dragon, little River, US 441, Blue Ridge Parkway), down to cherokee and Ashville, then up to Johnson City, back down to Parris Island, reversed direction back across Georgia, dipped down to the Florida panhandle and back to Alabama.
It was beautiful weather and is the logest ride I've made, I've never taken a week off just to ride - only weekends so this was an especially cool trip.
This is how it starts, this touring thing. Not only did you ride the best roads east of the Mississippi but you did it and got home before the crappy weather rolled back in. It was 78 in Northern Virginia last week. I'm watching it snow right now.
I've been to Deals Gap, maybe 20 times. That is the emptiest I have ever seen the lot.
Thanks. I grew up in East TN so I knew about many of those roads but I found a new one off US 19E, NC hwy 181 from Pineola, NC to Morgantown, NC is a great ride.

I also grew up in E.Tn. and love 19e over Roan mtn and down to Spruce Pine, NC. Have you ridden in the Damascus Va area ? Great riding in that area and a lot of people don't know about it.
Sounds like a great trip, I did some of those roads last year. This year I did a loop
to and from my home in Pa down the coast until Savannah where I got on 95 to
Daytona. Headed west out the panhandle of Florida on Rt 98 along the coast to Panama City, it's mostly open road with few lights, if you run off the road in most places you'll be in the Gulf. I also rodeo Rt 127 from Chattanooga up to Kentucky, when you get north of the Crossville look for Rt 154 on the right, take that into KY where it becomes Rt 167. 3600 miles of fun. Great area and great rides all over the east!
Dyna Rider, Please don't tell anyone about Rt. 58 through Damascus. It's a sport bike road and Harley riders would be over their heads. Also avoid any mention of Rt. 16, much too twisty for Hogs.
On the other hand Rt. 63 in NE Tenn. would be perfect.
BUZZARD II what section of Rt. 16 are you referring to? I road the stretch from Tazwell to Marion on a 2006 Goldwing in 2012 and had no problem. Plan to do it again this year on my 2014 Ultra Limited.
