Pop, either my sarcasm has gone over your head or there's a chain being yanked. In any case since you seem to be coming to Virginia to ride, stop in at a welcome center and pick up "A Map of Scenic Roads in Virginia". Follow any of the green or dark green roads.
Have you been to Burke's Garden just east of Tazewell? Please don't tell anyone about that one either!
Buzzard II - Yep the sarcasm went over my head. Didn't mean to offend. Didn't know about Burke's Garden. Will have to look into it.
Again, I apologize.
Pop, Burke's Garden is the highest farmed "valley" in Virginia. It's also called God's thumbprint, because of the shape of the valley and what it might look like from a topographical map. Or space.
One road going in. Lot's of vertical, lot's of turns. Watch out for milk tankers coming the other way. They will take up 3/4 of your lane. I think it's the most beautiful place in Virginia. When you come to a rare intersection there are signs posted pointing out "Yazgers Farm 2mi." "Smyths Farm 1mi." Get your gas and lunch in Tazewell. It's quiet, stopping on the road to take pictures is normal and safe and you will.
Except for the pavement it's like stepping back at least fifty years. Maybe that's why I like it so much.
Dyna Rider, Please don't tell anyone about Rt. 58 through Damascus. It's a sport bike road and Harley riders would be over their heads. Also avoid any mention of Rt. 16, much too twisty for Hogs.
On the other hand Rt. 63 in NE Tenn. would be perfect.
I found out about that gem (Rt 58) on my way home from Deals Gap last year. I had a perma-grin on my face all day after doing that. It was just me and a few sport tourers. So much fun. I need to get back down there.
