I have been through the park often on bikes and in cars, and I usually stay in West Yellowstone. Then find I can do the North Loop one Day, and the south Loop the second day. That works for me time wise. If you are traveling early in the morning, watch out for Buffalo on the road, I came pretty close to tagging one. I have parked my bike right in the middle of a heard crossing the road and had one giant male walk right by me. I wouldn't suggest that, but it was pretty cool. While in Cody, make sure you sit at the bar and have an Apple Juice and whiskey. Its what Buffalo Bill use to drink. There is a shoot out on the streets of Cody, but not on one night, which is the night I got there, so I missed that.

There is a coffee wagon at the top of the Beartooth. It is on the East peak, and on the West peak there is a nice place to pull over and take pictures. Take lots of water and sun screen up good, as it is high elevation and the Sun can burn. Also if you decide to walk a bit up there, pace yourself. Thin Air. Jackson is a nice town. Right downtown is the Cowboy Bar, a good place to eat. Very odd stools at the bar though.

I am going to Sturgis this summer (first time), and I will be going through Yellowstone and over the Bearthooth either coming back or heading to. You will find the ideal speed in the Park to be about 40. That way you can see the sights, have enough time to stop comfortably for unexpected pictures you want, and deal with the smucks in the cars and motor homes, who will stop anywhere, for any reason.

If you camping, take warm sleeping bags, and a base layer you can sleep in. I have seen Ice on my tent first thing in the morning, in August.

My first ride through the park was back in the mid '70s. I love the place.

30-40 minute delay waiting for a herd crossing.
Just shut the bike off and wait them out, and snap some really great photos.

Up close and personal.

Sounds funny but actually not. Was on the news a day or so ago. Some idiot put a newborn calf in their suv and took it to a ranger station because they thought the calf was cold. Rangers tried but could not get mother to accept the calf after the human touch and the calf had to be put down. Sad. Stupid people!

It happens every year in every state, well meaning people pick up a new born fawn or calf and take it to a Game Warden or Park Ranger thinking they have just saved the animals life. I would imagine the people who did this thinking they were saving the animal are devastated knowing they caused the animals death.

It proves the old adage,

The Difference between Genius and Stupidity, is that Genius has limits.
