This is quietly one of the best rides around, did a loop with the Beartooth Pass and Going-to-the-sun road and Lolo pass a few years back, and while Beartooth and Glacier were both spectacular and a real experience, Lolo pass was the most "fun" to just ride. Much faster, just pure twisties and you can do 60+ the whole way if I remember correctly.
From Lewiston to Lolo, MT is roughly 200 miles. Lewiston to Orofino is 40 miles. Orofino is an actual town. Then another 25 miles to Kamiah. Very small town. From Kamiah to Lolo, MT (the town, not the pass) is pretty much nothing but 130 miles of rural two lane. A gas station and cafe, mebbe two. Think "rustic".
Having said, that, it's a bucket list ride, for sure. Take a pic of the sign that says: "Curving road, next 99 miles". I've made it several times, probably 10 times in a car. Just rode from Lewiston to Lowell, ID for lunch last week. That's the halfway point. The pork tenderloin sandwich at the Wilderness Inn is the size of a plate. You've been warned.

Don't forget the Huckleberry Pie at the Lochsa lodge. That's worth the drive from Boise just for the pie. It's hard to go wrong anywhere in Central or Northern Idaho. The roads are all curves, the scenery is incredible and the mom and pop places to eat are the best.
OP, thanks for posting this. While in Missoula, I'm going to check this out on my way to Glacier. Only cost a day to ride 12 and then ride back to Missoula.
That's a must ride if you are in that area, while glacier and Beartooth were incredible Lolo is just a great road. We were heading west at the time and stayed in Lewiston.
For those starting in Missoula consider starting early and getting breakfast at Lochsa Lodge just over the pass in Idaho. Lots of biker activity with excellent food and service. For some reason on road trips doing 50 or 75 miles before breakfast makes the food and coffee better.
I am looking for some information on riding Lolo Pass in Montana/Idaho. We are riding with 2 couples travelling from Southern Utah. I am wanting some info on places to stay, places to eat, and things to see. I am planning on staying in Salmon the first night and then riding Lolo Pass to Lewiston the next day. Thanks for your help!
The Best Western in Clarkston is right on HWY 12 . Great pool and a $6 cab ride to Rooster's on the river for dinner. Always a good breakfast there.
And 2 blocks from Hells Canyon Harley is Coleman's for ethanol free gas. You pass right by it heading to the Rivertree Best Western.
