have been to durango on the bike 3 times, we just strolled into town and able to get a room. If there is one thing you do there, you have to ride from durango to silverton to ouray, unbeliveable
and if time allows, go over to telluride, we never stayed in telluride, it is very high dollar but it has a bunch of cool bars and restruants
Mesa Verde is about 2 hours from Durango and with time spent looking at the ruins, you will be most of a day. Nice ride and very interesting.
The San Juan Loop, Durango to Dolores, to Telluride to Ridgeway and the Million Dollar Highway back to Durango is about 300 miles and a day ride. One of the best.
Monument Valley is about 275 miles and a nice day ride out of Durango.
Durango is a very touristy place so most all the hotel/motel choices are adequate. Historic Strator Hotel in downtown is a very nice place, but pricy and parking can be iffy on a bike.
Grand Canyon is not much of an option for a day ride out of Durango. If you want to do that, plan on a night stay somewhere around Flagstaff. There is a very quaint little motel in Cameron, Az. that looks like it would be fun and it is very close to GC.
We did the KOA camping cabins last year in Durango. The train is a very nice ride. I reserved the seats that are in the open car that look straight out. I got the last seats in the row so we had a lot of room. People recommended ride the train up and ride the bus back. I would take the bus back.
I went to the Spa in Pagosa Springs 8-10 years ago while elk hunting in the mountains. Very nice. $20 They have different pools that they control the flow for different temperature pools.
