A few of us went a year or two ago .. around all the lakes ... entered at the NY / CA boarder came back in .. I think in Duluth ..over to Niagra back to NC.
Stayed on the roadway all the way. Be ready for quick changes in weather. Watch out for Moose. I can ask my buddy who put the ride together the route for the gpx files .. not sure if he still has them or not.
My wife and I did the Superior Loop last August. We took 7 days and had a great time. Wife said she would do it again in a minute. Trying to decide where to go in 2017. Have been thinking about doing a loop around another one of the lakes.
There are several ( some quite old ) threads on doing the Lake Michigan circle. I've been around each of 5 Great Lakes. There's something to be said for each and every one of the rides. If you happen to do the Lake Michigan loop, it's definitely worth the time to see Grand Marais, Pictured Rocks and take a ride on H-58 ( Grand Marais Truck Trail ) You won't be sorry.

Great advice Uncle Larry, H58 is a must ride.
Best Ride in Michigan (imo). I find it hard to ride the "Tunnel of Trees" after the experience. Don't forget to stop at Miner's Castle just East of Munising.
