I agree with the others - 70-74-80-29-90. I've done it several times, and it works. I usually stop the first night in Peoria or Davenport, and the second night in Sioux Falls.
I must live close to you (Marysville) and went out last summer. I listened to my GPS and went through Chicago... never again. As mentioned not much in between there and Sturgis. Plenty of things on ride ideas on here in the area. On my way back we went to the corn palace, a interesting stop but I would not go out if your way to see it.
I actually have an appointment in Marysville today. Im up past Mad River Mt in Logan county.
Looks like I'll stay south and avoid Chicago. Any other ideas on places to stay on the way let me know. Thanks again for everyone's input.
I've ridden out there from Ohio over 20 times. Tried every route. US 24 across Indiana and Illinois. Go north to I 80 on I 39 and once in Iowa take US 20 across Iowa to US 29 up to I 90. There are other back road routes. PM for more info if you have any questions. Enjoy the ride!
Marysville - I love riding what I call the "736" ride. Come out on 38 outside of Marysville. Lot of great roads around there - I live on the west side Hilltop and always ride west to Plain City and up - nice to see others here. Also, thanks for the tips, I'd like to ride out to Sturgis too one day.
I've never been, yet. A few things I've heard from my friends that has. Always carry plenty of water, the plain states can get hot and will suck your skin dry to the bone. And once you get to SD, put both feet down at stops. I heard they give the most tickets for that. I also heard the SD Leo's make you pay on the spot too.

Glad you like riding around here..... too flat and straight for me. I rarely ride around here, I normally head to SE Ohio for local rides.
The ride from here to sturgis is pretty boring, but the riding there is well worth it.
Sadly its a pretty boring ride, no matter what route you take.
The ride is what you make it. I've ridden I-90 from Sioux Falls to Rapid City dozens of times and see something different every ride. Enjoy your time in the wind. A lot of beautiful country out there.
